Encouraging students to join CSP

Help maximise CSP membership by encouraging your peers to join the CSP

As a CSP Student Rep, you play a crucial role in bridging the gap between the CSP and the student community. This page provides you with all the resources and guidance you need to help you recruit new student members.

Why member recruitment matters

The strength of the CSP lies in its membership. Put simply: the more members we have, the stronger we are.

Engaging more students to join the CSP is an important part of your role. It strengthens our collective voice, enhances professional opportunities, and ensures that every physiotherapy student benefits from the wealth of resources, support, and networking opportunities that the CSP offers. As a Student Rep, you have a unique opportunity to inspire and encourage your peers to become part of our community.

Recruitment toolkit

We understand that recruiting new members may feel daunting, but we are here to support you. Below are some resources designed to help you communicate the benefits of CSP membership effectively.

  • All new student reps will receive a CSP promotional pack, which contains leaflets, posters and CSP-branded merchandise for you to hand out to your peers. Request extra resources.
  • All reps will receive a hoodie and lanyard – wear yours out and about around campus so that you’re easily identifiable as your year’s rep!
  • Visit our student member benefits and We are the CSP campaign pages to familiarise yourself with the benefits of membership. Or take a look at our handy 'membership benefits checklist'
  • Encourage those who aren’t members yet to sign up for the CSP’s free mailing list – so that they can keep up to date with the CSP and join when ready.

Tips for successful recruitment

  • Map your cohort: It is useful to know which of your cohort are and aren’t CSP members. As for those who aren’t yet members, you should encourage them to join!
  • Engage personally: The most effective way to recruit new members is through face-to-face contact. Share your personal experiences and the benefits you’ve gained from being a CSP member. Make time to introduce yourself as the CSP student rep to potential members.
  • Leverage social media: If you use social media, use your platforms to promote membership. Share posts, stories, and testimonials in whichever format works for you. Please note the CSP’s social media guidance for members
  • Organise events: Host events such as information sessions, Q&A panels, or coffee mornings where students can learn more about the CSP in a relaxed setting.
  • Collaborate with faculty: Work with your lecturers and department heads to integrate CSP membership information into course materials or university events.
  • Peer support network: Connect with other Student Reps across the UK to share ideas, strategies, and experiences related to member recruitment.
  • Be inclusive and encourage all students to join. Highlight the CSP's commitment to equity, diversity, and belonging and the resources available to our members.
