The CSP wants members' views to support its response to a government consultation seeking to make revisions to the medical reporting process for road traffic accident (whiplash) claims.
The Ministry of Justice are reviewing several aspects of MedCo procedures, some of which may affect physiotherapists undertaking MedCo reports which include amongst others:
- revised qualifying criteria for medical reporting organisations and rules for experts who accept direct instructions
- fixed cost medical reports
- changes to improve the quality of reports and on how medical reports for represented claimants are sourced.
CSP professional adviser Pip White said: 'We would like to hear from any CSP member who has experience of providing reports via MedCo in relation to any of the questions asked in the consultation.
'The CSP will be submitting a corporate response to the consultation as we are a named stakeholder. We want to ensure members’ experiences are reflected in our response.'

Medicolegal reporting
MedCo is a non-profit organisation providing medico-legal reporting services for whiplash injuries.
The CSP is a member of the board of MedCo, and physiotherapists are recognised, along with GPs and orthopaedic surgeons, as appropriate professionals who can provide medicolegal reports for whiplash personal injury claims through MedCo.
Since 2016, only individuals or organisations, who have completed approved training, and are registered with MedCo have been able to provide fixed-fee ‘whiplash’ reports in line with MedCo rules.
The consultation Revisions to the Medical Reporting Process for Road Traffic Accident Claims will run for 12 weeks, closing on 10 October. It affects England and Wales.
