The NHS Covid-19 contact tracing app for England and Wales has launched today.

Available for anyone aged 16 or over, it will alert the user if they have spent 15 minutes within two metres of somebody who has tested positive, and who also has the app.

App technology to support contact tracing already exists in other parts of the UK. StopCOVID NI is available for adults in Northern Ireland, and the Protect Scotland app is for Scottish residents aged 16 and over.

All three apps operate on anonymous Bluetooth proximity tracing.

Advice to health care professionals, who may be in contact clinically with people who have tested positive, is to turn the app off while at work.

The apps are all available to download free of charge from the App Store and Google Play.
