The first national NIHR & Charities Consortium for Hospice and Community Research conference will be held in London on 19th April which will share examples of new research across the UK.
The Consortium was launched in 2017 to bring together the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network (CRN) and a wide range of UK charities to support supportive and palliative care research in the hospice and community settings.
The Consortium aims to make the UK a global leader in the area of hospice and community research within 5 years. To this end, we have a plan which emphasises the roles of both NIHR CRN and the charities in supporting the building of research capacity, competence and activity. The Consortium’s first national conference will review progress made against our objectives and share examples of new research across the UK.
The conference will be opened by Baroness Julia Neuberger, to whom we are very grateful for her key role in establishing the Consortium in 2017.
The programme starts with a session in which a number of the Consortium partners will highlight the progress made over the last year in working towards the Consortium’s objectives. Baroness Neuberger will present the first annual Consortium research prizes.
During the lunch break, there will be the opportunity to review the work of the charities and NIHR as well as posters of selected research from the NIHR portfolio.
After lunch, we will hear the patients’ perspective and showcase oral presentations of current and recently completed research projects which have been supported by NIHR or the Consortium charity partners.
We welcome registration from physicians, nurses and AHPs who are (or would like to become) involved in palliative care research in the hospice or community setting. Places are limited so please register without delay! It is free, but please note we are not able to provide travel expenses.
We would welcome the submission of posters and papers for oral presentations – by 9 March
Lunchtime poster session: we invite abstracts for posters which cover hospice and/or community based research. We are happy to receive submissions of work that has been previously presented at other major meetings such as the NCRI or Hospice UK conferences. Charities and other organisations supporting research are also encouraged to submit posters describing their remit and work.
Afternoon oral presentations: we invite researchers who are conducting hospice and/or community based research which is on the NIHR portfolio (including cancer and other relevant specialties) to present oral papers. Work can be completed and already published, or still in progress. Presentations will be 10 mins, with 5 mins discussion.
Please indicate whether you plan to submit an abstract for a poster and/or oral presentation by answering the questions on the conference registration form below.
You can then upload your abstract (max 1 side of A4) at the time of registration or subsequently by clicking the “edit response” button in the confirmation email which will have been sent to you.
The conference will take place on 19 April.
